Starting next week the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, is upgrading 12.2 km of underground oil filled cables with new environmentally friendly electricity cables between Hazel Grove and Hawk Green.

Most of the power network was installed in the 1960s, including oil-filled cables and Electricity North West are investing in replacing these cables across the North West.

Engineers will also be using their expert skills to also upgrade the cable that cross over the Macclesfield Canal on Windlehurst Road, installing the new cables under the canal.

John Pietsch, South Operations Transmission Manager for Electricity North West, said: “We’re proud to be investing more than £3m in the local community to ensure 11,000 customers enjoy a reliable supply of power which we all take for granted every day.

“Power cuts are thankfully rare, but as these cables were first installed in the 1960s it’s vital we upgrade them now so we continue to deliver an excellent, safe and affordable service to all our customers across the region.”

Traffic management has been agreed with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and any disruption will be kept to a minimum and advance notice will be located on any roads which will be closed during this essential project.

If anyone living in the area has any queries about the project, they are advised to call Electricity North West on 0800 195 4141.
