Engineers from Electricity North West, the region’s power network operator, have started to install 4km of new underground cable between Stanley Way in Skelmersdale and Tabbys Nook in Newburgh.
The essential five-month project will help ensure local customers continue to receive a reliable power supply now and in the future.
Paul McGonigle, programme delivery manager for Electricity North West, said: “We continuously invest in maintaining and upgrading the power network across the North West to ensure our customers receive the power they need now and in the future.
“We will work to keep any disruption to a minimum, but unfortunately there is no way to install underground cables without some disruption, but we hope drivers and residents in Skelmersdale understand the need for this essential project.”
There will be temporary traffic lights and road closures in place to allow engineers to safely carry out the work. Any work near schools will be carried out during half term and there will be advance notice signs in the area.
