Electricity North West, which operates the region’s power network, will be carrying out the work on Welsh Row over the next three weeks.
Investing more than £70,000, the firm is removing 500 metres of overhead power lines from 11 wooden poles, which have been in place for more than 50 years and instead will install new underground power cables.
The work will benefit thousands of customers in the area and improve safety moving the lines away from climbable trees that are currently close to the existing lines.
James Bussey, Electricity North West’s project manager for the work being carried out in Macclesfield, said: “It’s extremely important we carry out the work in Macclesfield. We want customers to receive the best supply possible and that’s why we’re investing more than £70,00 to complete the project.
“When major work like this is carried out, roads are dug up and it isn’t an easy time for commuters or residents. But, as always, we will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum and I want to thank the residents of Macclesfield for their co-operation.”
While work is being carried out, a road closure will be in place on Welsh Row from Monday, March 16th until Tuesday, March 31st.
