The region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, is investing more than £450,000 to install 3km of new electricity cables which will power the lives of 600 customers in Holcombe, Bury.
The project, which will start on 24 July, will take place along the B6214 Helmshore Road, between the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Holcombe Village and Buckden Woods. The new cables will be laid in eight weeks and energised soon after by Electricity North West engineers.
The work was originally due to start in January, but following consultation with residents, Electricity North West agreed to move the work to the summer so that bad weather would not cause additional disruption for residents.
Mike Selwesiuk, South Lancashire operations manager at Electricity North West, said: “These cables have been supplying power since the 1930s and by ensuring we invest in new cables local customers will continue to enjoy a reliable power supply for another 80 years.
“We had planned to get this work done over winter, but residents advised us that the weather can be difficult, so we agreed to move the work to the summer to keep disruption to a minimum. We continually invest in maintaining and upgrading the network across the North West to ensure we provide the best service to our local communities and ensure people continue to take electricity for granted in their homes and businesses.”
To allow engineers to safely carry out the work Helmshore Road, between Holcombe Village and Buckden Woods, will be closed in sections for approximately eight weeks starting on 24th July 2019.
Work outside of Emmanuel Holcombe C.E. Primary School and through the village will be carried out during school summer holidays and access for residents and businesses along the route will be maintained at all times.
Traffic management has been agreed with Lancashire County Council and Bury Council and any disruption will be kept to a minimum and advance notice will be located on any roads which will be closed during this essential project.
