An £805k power network upgrade between Hadfield and Glossop, which will replace 2.5km of underground power cables, is set to commence on Monday 8 April. The project, carried out by Electricity North West, will ensure a reliable power supply to the area through new modern and efficient cables for years to come.
The route is from the existing Hadfield substation off Hadfield Road, to the existing Glossop substation off Simmondley Lane. The route will be via the following roads; Hadfield Road, Green Lane, Newshaw Lane, Shaw Lane, A57 Dinting Vale to Glossop Primary substation.
To enable the work to be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights will be installed along the A57 Dinting Vale Lane for approximately five weeks.
John Pietsch, transmission south manager for Electricity North West, said: "We're investing more than £800,000 in the area to lay new, modern and environmentally-friendly underground power cables from Hadfield to Glossop. This will replace cables that have been in place for decades and will ensure a reliable power supply for thousands of local residents and businesses for years to come.
"Unfortunately, due to the work being carried out in the road, we cannot avoid some level of disruption however, we've worked closely with the council to make sure that we keep this to an absolute minimum.
“We'll be contacting local residents and businesses who will be directly affected by the work with more information on the scheme by letter in the coming days. I'd like to thank everyone in advance for their patience while we carry out this essential work."
Electricity North West will closely monitor the flow of traffic but are advising motorists to allow extra time for journeys and to try to avoid the area where possible.
