An additional £70k will be spent upgrading part of the power network in Heaton Chapel, Stockport.

Engineers from Electricity North West will recommence work on Manchester Road upgrading an additional 250m of underground cables.

Earlier this month, the region’s power network operator upgraded 150m of underground cables on Manchester Road after issues with the cable caused several power cuts.

After energising the new cables, engineers have discovered an issue with an additional stretch of cable and will now replace it, further protecting the electricity supply to 1,500 properties in the area.

David Jones, who is overseeing the work in Heaton Chapel for Electricity North West, said: “The additional work taking place is necessary for the residents of Heaton Chapel.

“After completing the recent cable replacement on Manchester Road, testing revealed further faults on another stretch of cable, so we want to act now to prevent power cuts in the future.

“The work taking place will see us invest another £70,000 and as well as replacing the cables, we’ll also be installing more ducts so if more cables are needed in the future, disruption can be kept to a minimum.

“I want to thank residents for their patience and support. Phase one of the project went smoothly and we’ll do everything we can to ensure phase two follows the same path.”

Engineers will carry out all the works on Manchester Road, starting on Friday. Whilst work is taking place, traffic lights will be used to ensure engineers can work safely and all work has been agreed with Stockport Council.

Electricity North West has hand-delivered letters in the local areas to inform them of the work and reassured customers that no power cuts are expected while the work is being completed.
