Application window open for apprenticeship roles at power network operator

More of the new apprentices

‘Help deliver a greener future’ is the call as SP Electricity North West opens applications for its apprenticeship programme.

Thirty roles are now up for grabs with the power network operator reaffirming its commitment to investing in its workforce for the future.

Now part-way through a period of record investment in the region’s electricity infrastructure, roles available include a focus on maintaining and upgrading underground power cables and overhead lines, taking green power to millions across the North West.

The news follows the Government announcement last week that clean energy will power more than 400,000 new jobs across the country by 2030.

Cyber security, project management, and design engineer roles are also available in the North West, along with wider IT roles including network engineers and testers.

Stephanie Trubshaw, SP Electricity North West’s chief operating officer, said: “We’re delivering green growth through investment in our network, supporting the region’s residents and businesses to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels for transport and heating by switching to electricity, as well as generating their own clean energy by connecting solar panels to our network.

“Apprentices play a crucial role in our business, we invest significantly each year and will continue to do so to ensure we have a workforce for the future with the necessary skills.

“Our network investment is only going to increase, as is the reliance on electricity as more people move towards electric vehicles and heat pumps. It’s critical we act now so those technologies can be adopted on the network and there’s no better time to be joining a thriving industry.”

Currently, more than 100 apprentices are within the business, at various stages of their career. SP Electricity North West’s programme boasts a 90 per cent pass rate since compared to the latest national average of 60 per cent.

Chris Havard, SP Electricity North West’s apprenticeship programme manager, added: “We’re proud to operate a growing, award-winning apprenticeship programme which develops talent across the North West region.

“Each year, we go from strength to strength, we listen to apprentices, take feedback on board to ensure we provide the best possible programme for our students.

“Our success rate speaks for itself and we’ve a diverse range of roles on offer. All of our apprentices that have qualified have been offered full-time roles within the business and we’re excited to receive a variety of applications from across the region.”
