The power company, which operates the region’s electricity network, is urging parents, guardians and children to heed the warning signs and stay away.

Vincent Cranny, head of health, safety and environment for Electricity North West, said: “The electricity network includes thousands of substations and miles of overhead power lines and poles, providing power to people across the North West.

“As it’s the Easter holidays next week families and youngsters will be enjoying the great outdoors, but it’s vital that they understand that interfering with the electricity network can prove fatal.

“Yellow ‘danger of death’ signs are fixed to all our electricity equipment. So we’re reminding everyone to stay away and stay safe.”

Families are warned to not play with kites near overhead lines as electricity can travel down the string of a kite and also if a ball or other object ends up in a substation compound then leave it there and contact Electricity North West – don’t be tempted to reach it.
