The region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, has launched a new responsive and accessible website to meet the essential needs of its five million customers.
Launched on Monday (30th October), the new-look website replaces the original six year old website with a more agile platform designed for mobiles and tablets and accessible for all customers.
In collaboration with digital agency Mando, the yearlong project involved 50 employees from across Electricity North West to help ensure the website is agile and has the content and functions that a wide range of customers require when they need it the most.
Stephanie Trubshaw, customer director for Electricity North West, said: “We’re extremely proud of our new website and the extra functions and support it will offer to our customers.
“More than half of our website traffic came from mobiles and tablets and this increased to around 75 percent during incidents like severe weather, including more than 85,000 website hits in just one day during Storm Desmond in 2015.
“This shows how vital a responsive and informative website is in supporting our customers during their time of need.
“The new website reflects how we have adapted and changed over the years and it showcases not only our new brand and the pride we take in the North West but also how we put our customers at the heart of everything we do.”
Electricity North West has worked with the Royal National Institute for Blind people (RNIB) to ensure the new website is accessible for people with any disability and it adheres to the ‘AA’ standard accessibility rating, with some key areas achieving an ‘AAA’ rating.
Other new key functions include an improved power cut map which is more bespoke and user friendly and offers customers more information about their power cut and where to get help. A connection guide has also been added to support new connections customers in ensuring they have a quick and easy access to all of the support they require when getting a new connection.
The new website also shines the light on key teams across the organisation highlighting the key people lead in energy innovation and that keep the power on across the North West.
