- Engineers have restored power to all substations in the region with the exception of two substations which serve 136 customers in Rochdale town centre. Generators are being connected to restore most of these customers this evening.
- Customers in Rochdale are asked, where they can, to conserve energy as this supports efforts to maintain supplies to the town.
- Around 800 customers in Greater Manchester and around 50 customers in Lancashire remain off supply. Door-to-door safety checks must be completed before these properties can be safely re connected to the network. The affected locations are Radcliffe in Bury and Croston.
- Electricity North West began safety checks for 300 customers in Littleborough yesterday and this work is expected to be completed today.
- Please contact us immediately if your property has no power and is not included in the above list so that we can understand and resolve your issue.
Working around the clock, the company has repaired damage to flooded substations, re-routed supplies and installed generators to ensure customers have an electricity supply.
As the flood water is receding, the company is now ensuring the safe restoration of power to properties impacted by the flooding. Currently around 850 properties in Greater Manchester and Lancashire are off supply and engineers, including inspectors and meter operators from electricity suppliers, have to carry out safety checks on equipment at these properties before they can be reconnected to the network.
The network operator is appealing to any customers not in the areas listed above who is still off supply to get in touch so that their issue can be addressed. Customers can call 0800 195 4141 or tweet @ElectricityNW.
Steve Cox, Incident Manager for Electricity North West, said: “We have now restored power to all of our substations in the region and I would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we have undertaken this work.
“We are now working with electricity suppliers to inspect properties that have been impacted by flooding. These inspections are essential to ensure that power is restored safety. Unfortunately, the properties and neighbouring properties, which are served by the same low voltage cable, will be off supply until these checks are complete. I'd like to reassure our customers of our commitment to complete these checks today and tomorrow."
Flood defences at Rochdale substation were upgraded in 2010 as part of a £468k scheme to protect power supplies against a '1-in-200-year' flood.
