Electricity North West engineers are en route to other areas of the UK having restored power to the North West following Storm Darragh.
Power has been restored to more than 22,000 properties in Cumbria and Lancashire since Storm Darragh hit on Saturday.
The network said that just over half of the power cuts were resolved automatically within three minutes thanks to its network investment.
Other areas of the UK have seen more than a million properties lose power since Saturday and teams from the North West are travelling to Wales and Northern Ireland to assist the restoration and repair efforts there.
Electricity North West Customer director, Steph Trubshaw, said: “We know how hard it is to be without power, particularly at this time of year, so we’re pleased that our automation worked well, alongside our teams on the ground, to minimise disruption.
“Our technology means power can be restored in minutes for most customers allowing our teams to focus on the physical repairs that are needed.
“Now that we’re on top of our restoration and repairs in the North West, we can free up teams to help other parts of the country that need our support.”
High winds from early Saturday prevented repair teams from climbing to restore power for some hours with engineers out all day in ongoing wind and rain.
Following the rare Met Office red warning for Wales, winds hit 75-95mph right along the western coast of the UK from Cornwall in the South West up through Wales to North West England and into South West Scotland.
Steph Trubshaw added: “We were well prepared and we work all year round to cut back trees from near overhead lines, where we have the landowners’ permission, to reduce the chances of power cuts.
“Unfortunately we can’t stop all debris or trees affecting overhead lines so we’re always ready to do what’s needed to restore power as quickly and safely as possible when storms hit.”
Extra support is available to customers in vulnerable circumstances, for instance those who rely on electricity for medical needs, are older, or have young children at home. You can register for Electricity North West’s free Extra Care Register at www.enwl.co.uk/ExtraCare.
If people see damage to the power network they should stay away and report it by calling the company on 105 so engineers can make the area safe as equipment may still be live.
You can view any live power cut information in the region on Electricity North West’s website here, get in touch on Twitter or Facebook, or by calling for free on 105 from any phone.
