£1.9 Million investment to improve Rochdale’s electricity Infrastructure

An SP Electricity North West engineer-2

A project upgrading a large section of Rochdale’s power network is underway.

Identified as part of its proactive investment programme, power network operator SP Electricity North West is carrying out work which will see three kilometres of underground cables replaced as well as assets within substations.

The project, which runs from Belfield to Gale, will benefit thousands of customers as engineers look to increase capacity and reliability in Rochdale and the surrounding areas.

Paul Riley, who is overseeing the project in the Rochdale area for SP Electricity North West, said: “This upgrade is a vital step in modernising our network and supporting the region’s future energy needs.

“By replacing ageing oil-filled cables with new, innovative technology, we’re not only improving reliability but also reducing environmental risks and preparing the network for future demands.”

SP Electricity North West is working closely with Rochdale Council to ensure access for businesses and residents is maintained throughout the work.

Temporary traffic lights will be used on Park Road, Bond Street and Yorkshire Road so engineers can work in the highway safely. SP Electricity North West has also hand delivered letters to customers notifying them of the work taking place. Teams have started work on Park Road to March Street before moving on to Belfield Road, Whitworth Road and Gale Street.

Regular updates will be provided by SP Electricity North West throughout the project, for more information, visit Rochdale investment.
