Electricity North West, the region’s power network operator, worked with the college to allow students to design and paint the mural on the substation in Moss Park Community Gardens in Timperley.
First year students aged 16-17 studying Level 3 diploma in Art & Design were commissioned to deliver the project, which will form part of their college coursework, by the Friends of Moss Park Gardens.
The project has taken 28 students four weeks to develop, including creating their own bespoke stencils, and one week to paint.
Simeon Knights, estates and wayleaves officer for Electricity North West said: “Substations are an essential part of the North West’ electricity network so it’s great to see them enhanced with a design inspired by the local surroundings.
“The students from Trafford College have done a fantastic job and we really have enjoyed working with them to deliver a brighter substation for the local community.”
Mark Green, curriculum leader for art and design at Trafford College said: “The students have really enjoyed working on the project, especially seeing their designs contribute to the finished mural.
“It was their first project of the year and an ambitious undertaking, which we hope will leave a lasting impression on them and the local community.”
