Major engineering work to take place in Stockport

SP Electricity North West-6

SP Electricity North West has committed £10m to enhance power network resilience in Stockport.

The region’s electricity network operator will install 2.4km of new underground power cables on its 33,000 and 132,000-volt networks.

In what is a major engineering task, work will take place beneath the River Tame, running from Reddish Vale Country Park to Broadstone Hall Road South.

Anthony Dunphy, who is overseeing the work for SP Electricity North West, said: “We’re constantly reviewing the electricity network and looking at ways to enhance reliability for our customers.

“Diverting more than two kilometres of underground cables will provide tens of thousands of customers with a more resilient, interconnected network for years to come as we all become more reliant on electricity.

“The whole project is incredibly complex; we’ll be utilising state-of-the-art equipment to drill under the River Tame to install and connect the new cables to the network.

“Throughout the work, we’ll ensure residents and businesses are informed with the progress we’re making.”

Work is now underway with teams working on Hague Avenue before moving to Broadstone Hall Road South.
