Major network investment to take place in Bolton-le-Sands

SP Electricity North West-6

SP Electricity North West is investing £2.6m to enhance the power network in Bolton-le-Sands.

The region’s power network operator will install 4.7km of new underground electricity cables on its 33,000-volt network.

The work taking place, which will benefit more than 5,000 homes and businesses, will improve the reliability across the village and allow for more low carbon technologies such as electric vehicle chargers to be installed.

SP Electricity North West’s head of capital delivery, Vincent Cranny said: “The significant investment we are making to the underground infrastructure will help improve reliability and increase capacity to allow homes and businesses to adopt low carbon technologies. By replacing ageing oil-filled cables with new, innovative technology, we’re also reducing environmental risks.

“The work is extensive and will have significant long-term benefits for Bolton-le-Sands and the surrounding area. We are working closely with the council to minimise disruption.”

Teams from SP Electricity North West will start work on Monday 5 January on Coastal Road, close to the Network Rail bridge.

Work will progress along Marine Road East and then onto Broadway as engineers will initially lay underground ducting, which the cable will sit in.

In what is a significant engineering project, work is expected to last nine months and SP Electricity North West will hand-deliver letters to customers affected.

To ensure teams can work safely, temporary traffic lights will be used and regular updates will be provided throughout the project.
