Power restored to 4,000 customers after Storm Freya hits the region

The region’s power network operator, Electricity North West has restored power to approximately 4,000 homes in Cumbria following Storm Freya hitting the region with gales of up to 80 mph and heavy snow across Cumbria last night.

Engineers worked through the night to restore power to around 4,000 homes, mainly in the North Lakes region, all of which have now been restored.

Mark Mercer, Network System Manager at Electricity North West commented: “Our team was prepared for the disruption anticipated by Storm Freya and we are always ready to respond to adverse weather conditions. We’re pleased that the network largely withstood the storm and that all reported incidents were restored by early this morning.

“We were also able to contact 30,000 customers on our Priority Services Register to ensure they were advised of what to do should they experience an issue with their supply due to the bad weather.”

Electricity North West is continuing to monitor the supply across Cumbria and the rest of the North West and encourages anyone to report any damage to overhead lines or issues with supply.

“I urge people that if they do see any damage to our overhead power lines, please stay away and report it to us straight away so we can repair it safely. As always, we work around the clock during incidents like this, and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week if customers need any help or advice.”

Electricity North West offers extra support to customers through their Priority Services Register. Extra support is available to customers if they require it.
