Power restored to 6,000 customers after Storm Hector hits the North West

Engineers from Electricity North West have restored power to 6,000 customers since Storm Hector brought severe gales to the North West this morning.

The region’s power network operator has fixed 26 faults and repaired damage to overhead power lines caused by the severe weather and flying debris throughout the day.

Engineers will continue to work through the evening to restore power to the final 100 customers in Shap, Workington and Kendal in Cumbria, Bolton in Greater Manchester and Chorley in Lancashire.

Chris Fox, network systems manager for Electricity North West, said: “I’m extremely proud of the work carried out today by our engineers to repair the damage and restore power to customers after the severe weather and I’m pleased to say we are back to business as usual.

“Our engineers have worked in difficult conditions to repair the damage and their job isn’t finished until the last customer is back on.

“Today we have seen gusts of up to 70mph in Cumbria, with 71mph reported at Spadeadam and 69mph at Shap. We are still urging people that if they see any damage to our overhead power lines please stay away and report it to us straight away so we can repair it safely.

“We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week if customers need any help or advice.”
