Engineers have restored power to the remaining 10,000 customers in Lancaster and surrounding areas after a fault caused the loss of power to 63,000 customers earlier today.

63,000 properties were affected by a fault at 11.45am. Engineers were on site within a few minutes and restored power to around 12,000 customers within half an hour and a further 30,000 within the first hour.

Engineers restored power to 10,000 customers at a time with the remaining customers restored at 3pm today.

Chris Fox, control systems manager for Electricity North West, said: “Our engineers have done an amazing job today in restoring around 63,000 customers in Lancaster and surrounding areas and we would like to thank our customers for their support today.

“Engineers arrived within minutes and started to restore large numbers of customers very quickly. Faults of this size are very rare and we will now be conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fault.

“We invest £130m every year in upgrading and maintaining the power network across the North West and our engineers work and live in the area and they are proud to keep the lights on. Unfortunately power cuts can still happen but we are on hand 24/7 to react quickly and work hard to restore power no matter the time of day or weather conditions.”
