Power restored to thousands of customers after severe weather

Electricity North West has successfully restored power to almost 16,000 customers after severe gales caused damage to the power network across the region.

Engineers have been working around the clock in difficult conditions to restore power to customers across the region.

Following the yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office on Monday the region's network power operator has been closely monitoring the weather and extra engineers have been on standby to help restore power and repair weather related damage to the overhead power lines.

Helwith Bridge, Settle was the worst affected with 4,700 customers off supply on Tuesday evening, power was restored to all customers in under 30 minutes. Other areas affected include Warwick Bridge, Cumbria and Coppull, Lancashire.

High winds can cause trees and debris to blow into overhead power lines, causing power cuts. Please stay away from any fallen power lines and report it as soon as possible.

The weather warning has been lifted but the North West will continue to see sporadic severe weather for the rest of the week.

Martin Deehan, operations director for Electricity North West, said: "We have been working hard to repair damage caused by the severe weather on Tuesday evening.

"I'm very proud of our engineers and their dedication at times like these. They are extremely skilled at working in difficult conditions to ensure we restore power to our customers as quickly as possible."
