Steve Johnson awarded MBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Steve Johnson, former Chief Executive Officer of Electricity North West, has today been awarded the MBE for services to energy networks.

Steve was CEO of the region’s power network for eight years before leaving at the beginning of June.

Steve has dedicated a long and distinguished career to the energy sector, most recently as Chief Executive of Electricity North West and has held a number of national and regional leadership roles with in the sector. Steve joins Infracapital, the infrastructure investment arm of M&G Investments in July. For the last three years, Steve had chaired a project for the Smart Grid Forum, looking at the needs of energy networks of the future. This Ofgem and Department for Energy and Climate Change joint-initiative examines the significant challenges and opportunities posed by GB’s move to a low-carbon economy, particularly for electricity network operators.

Steve also chaired the Energy Networks Association from 2011 until 2014, providing gas and electricity operators with an influential and committed voice.

In the North West, Steve was Chair of the Energy Group which supported the Greater Manchester Low Carbon Hub and focussed in particular on developing energy and climate change strategies for the city.
