The Electricity North West apprenticeship scheme has been recognised on the national stage.
The power network operator’s programme has been named ‘Best Apprenticeship in Energy and Utilities’, with the business fending off competition from high-profile national businesses.
Ian Smyth, Electricity North West’s CEO, said: “Delivering net zero is the challenge of a generation. Our work today is secured by ensuring the next generation are ready to carry the torch and make the next leap forward.
“Our apprentice programme is a strategic investment which delivers that security and ambition. We are proud to have our significant investment in recognised.”
Since 2017, Electricity North West has developed more than 250 apprentices. More than 90 per cent have completed the programme and secured a full-time role with the business.
Electricity North West has also invested time and resources in its communities and has seen an increase in applications from ethnic minority backgrounds and women, with the business’ continued commitment to represent the communities it serves.
Chris Havard, Electricity North West’s apprenticeship programme and engagement manager, added: “To bring home this award and be recognised by the industry as best in class for our apprentice programme in the Energy and Utilities category, is an outstanding achievement.
“The success of the apprentice programme is the culmination of a lot of hard work by so many people across the business.
“Many colleagues have invested thousands of hours in ensuring the scheme works best for both the business and the apprentices. We see that in the results, we’re always wanting feedback and the enthusiasm we see year in, year out is second to none.”
Electricity North West won the award at the National Apprenticeship Guide 2025 awards.
