Following feedback from businesses in the area, the region’s power network operator, is closing Church Road on Monday, October 21 for five days, rather than the original date of October 28.

It will re-open on Friday evening, October 25 and will have a two-way traffic light system in place for five days, whilst work is carried out move a number of ageing overhead power lines to underground.

The firm is replacing the overhead power lines, which have been in place since the 1960s, with new underground power cables and the upgrade will benefit almost 1,000 customers in the area whilst resilience will also be increased.

The project, which started on Monday, October 14, is expected to last four weeks.

Tony Broome, operations manager at Electricity North West, said: “Following in depth conversations with businesses in the area, we have been able to amend our traffic management plans.

“At all times, we want to keep disruption to a minimum and minimise the impact on customers.

“Work on the project has started and I want to thank the people of Saddleworth for their co-operation and understanding whilst we are in the area.”

Access for residents and businesses along the route will be maintained at all times.
