Work well underway on £800k Glossop engineering project

A major project laying new 33,000-volt electricity cables serving the High Peak is well underway.

Electricity North West, which operates the power network throughout the region, started work on its £805k project between Glossop and Hadfield last month.

Engineers are replacing 2.5km of underground power cables from the existing Hadfield substation, off Hadfield Road to the existing Glossop substation off Simmondley Lane.

The replacement cables will ensure a reliable power supply for thousands of customers in the area.

Already, excavation work has taken place allowing new ducts in the area to be laid ahead of the new cable installation.

John Pietsch, transmission south manager for Electricity North West, said: “We’re delighted with the progress being made on our Glossop and Hadfield project.

“We have excavated sections of the road and installed new ducts and we have also placed temporary steel plates on the ground which allows residents continued access to park.

“We’ve looked to keep disruption to a minimum and taken on board any concerns from local residents. We completed a huge amount of excavation outside the nearby primary school during the Easter holidays which meant there was no disruption after the school’s re-opening, something we’re really pleased with.

“I want to thank residents in the areas for their continued co-operation while we install these new cables for the area. The upgraded cables are a necessity and will benefit thousands of residents for many years to come.”

The full route is via Hadfield Road, Green Lane, Newshaw Lane, Shaw Lane, A57 Dinting Vale to Glossop Primary substation.

To enable the work to be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights have been installed along the A57 Dinting Vale Lane.
