Our work upgrading part of the power network near Manchester Airport is progressing.
As part of our South Manchester Enterprise Zone project, we are installing a new 33,000-volt substation housing two 40-tonne electricity transformers almost doubling network capacity in the area.
Our engineers will also install 30km of new underground electricity cables, with multiple cables along a 5km route between Styal Road and Thorley Lane to power the rapidly expanding Airport City Manchester and surrounding areas.
The work will improve power supply to thousands of homes and businesses in the local area and as our engineers progress, a series of road closures to allow work to be carried out safely will now be place.
Taking place from Friday, November 29th until Friday, January 10th, sections of Selstead Road and Bailey Lane will be closed. The closures have been separated into four phases to help minimise disruption and diversion routes and signage will be in place throughout the closures
We will temporarily re-open the roads from Friday, 20th December until Friday, January 6th 2020 to minimise disruption over the Christmas period.
