Hundreds of Electricity North West engineers are working on damaged power lines across Cumbria as they seek to repair the worst storm damage the company has ever seen.
Storm Arwen caused devastating damage across the power network in the North West, with over 900 separate incidents affecting around 117,000 properties across the region.
Almost 95 per cent of those affected – including almost all those in Lancashire and the High Peak – have now had their power restored.
With these repairs completed, more engineers can be redeployed to Cumbria to ensure power is restored to all customers as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, colleagues from all parts of Electricity North West’s are working across the region to support the repair work and help those customers who need additional support.
Stephanie Trubshaw, Electricity North West’s Customer Director and Incident Manager, said: “This has been a week that nobody affected by Storm Arwen will ever forget.
“We have seen significantly more damage than has ever been caused by a single storm before and have worked tirelessly to restore power as quickly as we possibly can."
Earlier today, the company restored power to the last towns and villages across Lancashire and High Peak affected by the storm which will allow additional resources to be redeployed across parts of South Cumbria.
It also secured emergency accommodation for up to 300 people in Cumbria, where food vans and community hubs have also been deployed to provide hot food and drinks and allow people to recharge mobile phones.
As well as restoring power to more than 110,000 properties across the region, Electricity North West has received more than 68,000 calls from customers and made more than 6,000 outbound calls to people on its Priority Services register.
As extensive reviews of the network continue, Electricity North West is also updating its website to show more accurate details of when customers who remain without power can expect to be reconnected, with the final customers currently expected to have power restored at the end of the week.
